A new poll conducted by the University of Maryland's Program on International Policy Attitudes states that 71% of Iraqis want the U.S. military to withdraw within one year. That figure includes 74% of Shi'a and 91% of Sunni, but only 35% of Kurds polled. The majority of Kurds polled (65%) favored instead that the US withdraw either within 2 years or not until the security situation improves.

The first appeared two weeks ago, the night after Secy. Rumsfeld's speech to American Legion in Salt Lake City, in which he stated that those who disagree with the administration's position are "morally confused."
The second appeared just two nights ago, on September 11, 2006:

This may be one of the most chilling, real, beautiful documentaries ever.

We went to the 49ers/Chargers game last night and sat in the 4th row of the bottom deck. VERY fun. I've never really had an NFL team, so I'm thinking about cheering for the 49ers from now on.

I'm hungry. There's only one doughnut left in the car. Oh, Kyle just ate it. I wonder what other options we have for food. Tiffanie?
First update from the road.

I have Jim L.'s wireless card and six fully-charged batteries, and we're heading west in a large van. We're somewhere between Tooele and Wendover, averaging a modest 77 miles per hour (my calculations only -- there's nothing scientific in that figure). The lineup:
Row 1 (The driver and the navigator): Steve H. and Kyle W.
Row 2 (The intelligence of the trip): Tiffanie F. and myself
Row 3 (The gabby lasses): Jaimie S., Jessica M., and Amy H.
Row 4 (The quiet ones): Kesliane L. and Mike S.
Row 5 (The *really* quiet one): Hailey P. (can I get a spell check on that one, please?)
Kyle insisted that the first movie we watch with the on-board DVD entertainment system be "Benchwarmers." If I weren't on a highly-anticipated vacation I'd suicide myself with a plunger. One can only pray for the salvation of those who produced this piece of work.
More to come...

And it's just as hilarious now as it was then.

I'm going to San Francisco tonight. Driving out there all night with 9 other friends. We're going to hit the 49ers game, do the tourist bit (I've been there quite a few times, but it's a first visit for most of the group), eat some good food, drive up the coast a bit, then coming back on Monday afternoon.
