So I left Utah a year ago. The actual one-year day was actually last Thursday, but I only just realized it today. So one year ago today I was on my way east. I had gone to California first to see my parents, and then I drove east by way of Phoenix, El Paso, San Antonio, Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, and Spartanburg. Since then I've had a wonderful year. I've had a self-induced heartbreak that took me most of the year to recover from. I've seen myself be immensely blessed in my professional life. I have a job that I'm deeply committed to. My job has sent me to Europe once and Asia twice. I've had the pleasure of meeting great people from all around the world. I've worked harder than I've ever worked in this past year. I've made great friends here in Raleigh. All different types of people. Friends at church and friends at work. I have a great ward with a great bishopric.
My life is very, very good.

Frank just told me that one of his co-workers thought There Will Be Blood was "not good." I have no tolerance for this person. I still haven't seen the film yet (I will this Saturday), but those who know me know I'm obsessed with P.T. Anderson and believe he can do no wrong. He simply cannot do any wrong. I've been waiting for this film for years and only haven't seen it because I've been super-busy since it got to Raleigh. But yeah, I'll see it this weekend.
Anyhow, Frank's co-worker, the gentleman who said There Will Be Blood is "not good" and "boring," it turns out he's into comic books. Of COURSE he wasn't going to like the film! Boredom and excitement have no place in a film like this. It's an expression, a view, not a shallow story made for spoon-feeding. On that note, I present you with my view of comic book nerds in general. Memorize this formula for your own reference:
*EDIT* A question just came to my mind: What do they call The Clap in Mexico? El Clap?

comic book nerds = d&d nerds = world of warcraft nerds = people who never shower and will likely die alone = conspiracy theorists = heavy metal fans even though their faces are covered with pimples = people who wear sweats in publicFrank: avoid that friend like you'd avoid a Tijuana whorehouse.
