David Doesn't Know What He Wants
By Tim Boisvert

David doesn't know what he wants. On Wednesday it was Maren. On Thursday he felt little for her. Friday night it was Jenny. By Saturday morning it was no longer Jenny. Saturday night it was Stephanie. Later that night he saw Jenny and it was no longer Stephanie. On Sunday morning he saw Maren and finally knew it was never going to be her. Sunday afternoon he spoke with Stephanie and it was no longer Jenny. That evening he saw Stephanie and decided it wasn't her. The next time he sees Jenny he will consider her, but he will go home that night knowing that it is not Jenny that he wants. He will appear frustrated, angry that this surety so many possess has passed him by. He will feel alone at night and will occasionally consider crying himself to sleep. The morning will come and he will again open his eyes, breathe deeply, and begin to create a new list. This pattern will repeat throughout the coming months and years, until he is old and lonely, driving by college campuses and checking out the girls who walk out of the student center. He will never find love and will die alone, never figuring out what it is that he actually wants.
